What we collect
Your email address — only when you type it into a signup form yourself.
Like almost every website, the site also receives standard technical data automatically: IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit and the site you came from. Squarespace, our hosting platform, uses this for aggregate site statistics and security logs.
Cookies
The site sets a few cookies. Squarespace sets an essential cookie (crumb) that keeps the site working, and two analytics cookies (ss_cvr, ss_cvt) containing a random visitor ID used for aggregate stats — how many people visit and which pages they read. The Google tag we use to measure our book ads sets a cookie (_gcl_au) with a random identifier so Google can count ad conversions; Google processes that data under its own privacy policy.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time — the site works fine without them.
Why we collect your email
Your email is used to send you the free story you requested, plus occasional updates from Dan: new releases, launch-day deals, and news about the books. Nothing else.
Who processes it
The site and its mailing list run on Squarespace; emails are sent through Squarespace Email Campaigns, which stores subscriber addresses on our behalf (on Squarespace servers, including in the United States). Google processes the ad-measurement data described above. We do not run any other trackers, and there is no advertising on this site itself.
What we never do
We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with anyone.
Unsubscribe any time
Every email includes an unsubscribe link. One click and you’re out — no questions asked.
Your data, your call
Want to know what we have about you, or want it deleted? Write via the contact page and it will be done.
